Painting a Portrait from Life in Oils
With Anastasia Pollard RP & with assistance from Hannah Twine
This 3 Day course will focus on the fundamentals of painting a portrait in oils. The first day will cover drawing the head with paint to build a solid foundation for developing a portrait and the afternoon will cover using a warm/cool limited palette. The following two days will be spent on a single painting starting from the grisaille stage, painting a first pass with the Zorn palette and then expanding to a full colour palette for the second pass. You will learn a structured, reproductible approach, starting by blocking in big shapes, gradually moving in with details. You will gain confidence tackling this complex subject, and improve your observational skills along the way.
This course will be suitable for artists of all levels. No experience of life Portrait is necessary.
What will I learn?
